CSC shop / Books / Book: Fidel My Life
Based on more than 100 hours of interviews with Fidel by journalist Ignacio Ramonet then editor of Le Monde Diplomatique, published just after he stepped down as president. This is Fidel more or less telling his story in his own words, speaking openly about everything from his parents and early influences, including that of Hemingway's Spanish Civil War novel ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, to his imprisonment, guerrilla war and the revolution to the Bay of Pigs, the missile crisis and his relationship with Che Guevara. Ramonet challenges Castro on a number of controversial questions, from human rights and freedom of the press to 1960s attitudes to homosexuality.
